With the collapse of Ethiopia’s communist government in 1992, a revival
of Christian faith in the Western Wollega Province, and the need for
pastors and lay leaders in the Mekane Yesus Church, the Presbyterian Church of Ethiopia, Gidada
Bible School (GBS) was established. GBS trains leaders for
local churches, and receives funding supporting from Ethiopia Education
Endowment Fund.
Gidada Solon, an Ethiopian evangelist, is the inspiration for this
institute, and, who though blind, went about Western Ethiopia teaching
and preaching, and planting churches in many villages.
The school offers a three-year curriculum, continuing education
opportunities for church leaders, and a lay leadership training program.
Currently, 32 men and women are enrolled, training as evangelists and
church leaders, in preparation to serve in their communities and
congregations. |

For those students
aspiring to eventually become ordained ministers, or who seek
further formal education, Mekane Yesus Theological Seminary,
established in 1960, is a post-secondary institution offering a
Diploma in Theology as well as a Bachelor's of Theology degree.
The seminary employs
six lecturers holding doctorates, and has enrolled more than 100 in the
Bachelors of Theology program. |
